Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

PRE-REQUISITES

All delegates must be in possession of a valid document as listed:

  • Valid seafarer medical certificate issued by an approved medical practitioner.
  • Valid seafarer identity document; AND
  • Be not less than 18 years of age

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • This course covers the requirement of international convention STCW 1978 as amended and Code (Manila amendments 2010) Chapter VI, Section A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-2 The Liberian Registry requirements on meeting the minimum standard of competence in fire prevention and firefighting, delegates will be competent to take appropriate measure the safety of personal and of the ship and to use fire appliances correctly and having useful knowledge on fire prevention.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

To successfully complete this training delegates must competence included knowledge, understanding, proficiency and demonstrating as the following:

  • Concept and application of the fire triangle, fire and explosion.
  • Types and source of ignition.
  • Flammable materials commonly found onboard and fire hazards.
  • Organization of shipboard firefighting and location of fire appliances.
  • Fire spread and fire detection.
  • Classification of fires.
  • Selection of fire appliances and equipment.
  • Precaution for and use of fixed installation.
  • Use of breathing apparatus.
  • This course is suitable for all seagoing personnel employed or engaged onboard vessel as part of the mandatory STCW requirements.
