PRE-REQUISITES

  • All delegates must be in possession of a valid medical certificate

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • This course is designed to provide the delegate with knowledge of the rigging principles, general hazard and risk of rigging and slinging operations, an awareness of relevant legislation and regulation, and to practice safe lifting and hoisting operation

To successfully complete this training delegates must be able to explain and demonstrate the following:

  • Explain typical lifting incident and prevention strategy
  • Explain applicable legislation and industrial best practice
  • Explain safe system of work in lifting and hoisting operation
  • Explain typical lifting and hoisting equipment and component
  • Explain inspection and maintenance of lifting equipment
  • Explain principle of rigging
  • Explain typical communication system and standard crane hand signal
  • Practice banksman and slinger role during lifting of various load
  • Deciding when tag lines need to be used and their safe use
  • Planning, walking through and allowing for sufficient headroom along the route
  • Determining the load bearing capabilities of the lay down area
  • Conducting pre-use checks of lifting appliances and accessories
  • Correct positioning of personnel involved in lifting operations
  • Erecting signs and barriers or posting sentries
  • Conducting post-use checks of lifting appliances and accessories
  • Storage procedures for packing materials, lifting appliances and accessories
  • The disposal of any waste in relation to legislation and procedures
  • This program is designed to meet the initial offsite training and assessment requirements for crews carrying out Banksman and Slinging Operations.
